چکیده

We present the results of non-linear pulsation modeling of bump Cepheids in the LMC and SMC. By obtaining an optimal fit to the observed MACHO V and R lightcurves we can determine the fundamental parameters of each Cepheid, namely mass, luminosity, effective temperature, distance modulus and reddening. We are able to describe the mass-luminosity relation for core-He burning intermediate mass stars. The mass-luminosity relation depends critically upon the level of internal mixing during the course of the star’s main-sequence evolution. Under the paradigm of convective core overshoot, our results enable us to place tight quantitative limits of the level of overshoot. We derive an overshooting parameter of Λc of 0.65±0.03 and 0.67±0.04 l/Hp for the LMC and SMC respectively.

Large Magellanic Cloud Bump Cepheids: Probing the Stellar Mass-Luminosity Relation

We present the results of non-linear pulsation modelling of 20 bump Cepheids in the LMC. By obtaining a optimal fit to the observed V, R MACHO lightcurves we have placed tight constraints on stellar parameters of M , L, Teff and well as quantities of distance modulus and reddening. We describe the mass-luminosity relation for core-He burning for intermediate mass stars. The mass-luminosity rela...

Comparative Pulsation Calculations with Op and Opal Opacities

Comparative linear nonadiabatic pulsation calculations are presented using the OPAL and Opacity Project opacities. The two sets of opacities include effects due to intermediate coupling and fine structure as well as new abundances. We used two mass luminosity (M L) relations, one standard (BIT), and one employing substantial convective core overshoot (CO V). The two sets of opacities cannot be ...

The Luminosity Scale of Cepheid Variable Stars: a Revision

The period-luminosity-color relation for classical Cepheids is discussed in terms of a recent redeterminations of the distance moduli of open clusters with Cepheid members. The distance moduli of eight clusters with well established Cepheid members were determined from Stromgren four-color and Hp photometry of the B stars. Possible sources of systematic errors in these distance moduli are discu...

Nonlinear model pulsations for long-period Cepheids II. Magellanic Cloud Cepheids

Nonlinear, radiative models for long–period Cepheids in the Magellanic Clouds were constructed and the theoretical light and velocity curves were compared with observations. We assumed a metal content Z = 0.005, and two mass–luminosity M–L relations: one was obtained from stellar evolution calculation with convective overshooting models, and the other, which gives an even larger L for the same ...

LINEAR PULSATION CHARACTERISTICS OF MIRA VARIABLE STARS

The linear adiabatic pulsation-periods of Mira variable stars have been derived. Approximately 2701[1]models were calculated for M = 0.7 MΘ to 2 MΘ stars with radii from 180 RΘ to 340 RΘ and luminosities from 2800 LΘ to 10,000 LΘ. The chemical composition of all models is (X,Z) = (0.7,0.02). From the result of this study, linear relations on Luminosity-Period-Mass relationship and luminosity-pe...
